Žirje Island is the furthest and the largest island in the Šibenik archipelago. It is known as a fishing settlement and a rich fishing area. It is also known for its natural beauty, clear blue sea, natural rocky bathing areas such as the ones in the Large and Small Coves, as well as Stupica and Koromačna which are seafarer destinations.
The locals mainly occupy themselves with growing grapes, olives and figs. The island is the perfect place for a peaceful vacation away from city noise. Relax on the beaches and find your own piece of the sea. Those who wish to take part in sports and recreation can enjoy cycling and trekking. While in Žirje, do not miss the opportunity to visit Šibenik, Krka National Park and many interesting towns of the Šibenik region. It is the perfect place for those who wish to have a peaceful vacation and enjoy the beauty offered by the summertime because of its distance from the mainland, as well as because of its good connection to the mainland. Like all Dalmatian towns, Žirje has its Fisherman’s Evening, as well as the sports festivity “Bodulska pripetavanja” (“Bodul bickering”, based on the spontaneous competitions between the neighboring island towns of the Šibenik Archipelago in various sports disciplines, including bocce ball, cards, soccer, water polo, swimming, rope tug (which is also considered the most important part of this festivity and is also called “Queen of the Bickering”). Cuisine lovers can enjoy the specialties of this region, especially seafood dishes and meals prepared under a Dutch oven in restaurant “Julija”. While on vacation in peaceful Žirje, do not miss the opportunity to visit Šibenik, Vodice and Primošten.
