XP 38 - regatta sailing with comfort

/ Monday, January 23, 2012 /

Like her bigger sister, the Xp 38 has been designed for ultimate dual-purpose performance.
A high ballast to weight ratio offers high stability under a generous sail plan to deliver sparkling performance, while superb sail-handling design ensures she is as enjoyable to sail with a full crew or short-handed, as demonstrated on her maiden sail in moderate westerly winds.

Highly competitive against 40-footers
Initial indications are that the Xp 38 will earn an IRC rating of between 1.075 (standard draft and alloy rig) and 1.090 (deep draft and carbon) making it highly competitive against 40-footers and even faster than the world beating IMX 40. The Xp 38 was designed from the outset with multiple keel and rig configurations, including an optional deep draft keel with high aspect ratio fin and carbon rig upgrade, accompanied by a grand prix deck gear package. The sailplan and rig were developed closely in conjunction with Southern Spars and North Sails, ensuring the Xp 38 has been carefully optimised to sail under both IRC and ORC.
